Great North Run 2014
The Great North Run 2014 in September our Director’s Paul Hughes and Stephen Bennett raised money for the Diabetes UK Charity by taking part in the run.
Operations Director Stephen ran 13 miles and achieved a time of 2hrs 8 mins, with 2013, the year before being Stephen’s personal best of 2hrs 04 mins. So he finished 4 minutes later than the year before but due to the difference in heat, with 2014 being really hot whilst the race was on rather than the usual rain he was happy with his time.
Stephen had actually hurt his knee two weeks before the event and was told by the doctor not to take part. However he told the doctor this was never going to stop him as his sponsors had taken the time to donate and he did not want to let the charity down. Once across the finish line he limped back to the car in agony. We were very proud of him and his resilience to finish the race.
Managing Director Paul does not enjoy running and therefore did not take part in the event however he was there to support Stephen and spent the few months before gaining sponsors and raising money for the charity. By sharing the Just Giving link on social media and through other methods of contributions he was able to raise nearly £700 from donations.
Stephen has ran the Great North Run for the last 4 years and each time raised money for Diabetes but next year he aims to choose a charity local to Birmingham that is close to his heart….so come back next year to see which charity this is!!
